Effective IT procurement is essential for organizations to acquire the necessary technology solutions efficiently and cost-effectively. This session explores the general setup of IT procurement at Bayer, covering process design, time commitments, agile sourcing, vendor definition, reduction, selection procedures, and the importance of preparation to ensure timeliness. Departing from the process design as well as vendor definition and reduction strategies, the presentation highlights careful planning and documentation of requirements, milestones, and evaluation criteria, further addressing the issue of precise time commitments to ensure timely execution of each stage of procurement and avoid a delay of RFPs. Finally, the session will provide some examples for agile sourcing pointing out the benefits with regard to flexibility and adaptability as a response to changing needs and market conditions. Marcus Oestereich joined Bayer in 2016 as Head of Procurement IT, Software and License Management. Since 2020 he has been responsible for the management of strategic IT procurement projects including large-scale business process transformation and IT system transformation to SAP S4/Hana, upgrades with SAP and contracting of managed cloud services (SAP S4-ERP, services, infrastructure), the move from from private data centers to hyperscalers, as well as IT workplace services. He has more than 25 years of professional experience in different executive procurement positions, previously working in different domains at Daimler.
